Farm Frites – Dooen, Victoria
Global Food Manufacturing. Regional Investment. Future-Focused Design.
PACEARCHITECTS is proud to be involved in the delivery of a major new food processing and production facility for Farm Frites, one of the world’s leading producers of frozen potato products.
Founded in the Netherlands in 1971, Farm Frites has grown from a family farming business into an international food manufacturer supplying customers across more than 100 countries. Despite its global reach, the company maintains a strong connection to its agricultural heritage, with a focus on quality, innovation, long-term partnerships and responsible food production.
The new facility at Dooen in regional Victoria represents a significant investment in Australian food manufacturing and the local economy, creating new employment opportunities while establishing highly specialised production capability within the region.
PACEARCHITECTS’ Role
PACEARCHITECTS was engaged during the critical Design Development phase, working directly with the Netherlands-based client team, Vaughan Constructions and specialist consultants to translate Farm Frites’ international operational standards, technical requirements and production brief into a coordinated solution suitable for Australian construction and regulatory requirements.
This phase required close collaboration across international time zones and disciplines, with PACEARCHITECTS playing an important role in bridging the client’s global design and operational requirements with the local consultant and construction teams.
Our involvement continued through the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), detailed design and construction delivery phases, providing architectural leadership and coordination across this highly technical food manufacturing environment.
The project is being delivered across an expansive 304,589m² greenfield site and incorporates a 20,368m² processing and production facility, integrating advanced food-grade production lines, complex automation systems, controlled mechanical and refrigeration environments, large-scale cold storage and a two-level administration office.
A further 11,320m² climate-controlled potato storage facility provides carefully regulated temperature and humidity conditions to support consistent year-round production, while a dedicated wastewater treatment plant forms an important component of the development’s process and environmental infrastructure.
Our involvement includes:
Critical Design Development
Direct Coordination with the International Client Team
ECI Design Support
Architectural Construction Documentation
Multidisciplinary Consultant Coordination
Food Processing & Production Planning
Food-Grade & Hygiene-Critical Design Coordination
Specialist Equipment & Automation Integration
Cold Storage & Refrigeration Coordination
Climate-Controlled Storage Facilities
Australian Code & Construction Integration
Construction Phase Design Support
Detailed Design Resolution
The scale and technical complexity of the development demands close coordination between architecture, specialist food processing equipment, automation, refrigeration, mechanical services, structure and stringent food-grade requirements.
Through a highly collaborative approach, PACEARCHITECTS helped bridge international expertise with local delivery, translating Farm Frites’ global standards and operational requirements into a coordinated, efficient and buildable Australian facility — supporting the next generation of advanced food manufacturing in regional Victoria.
