Hale Portal – Matraville, NSW

PACE Architects is proud to have played a key role in the delivery of Hale’s Portal at Matraville, NSW — one of Australia’s pioneering large-scale, ramp-up multi-level industrial developments.

PACE’s involvement began during the early site feasibility phase, preparing initial concept and feasibility sketches while the development was still being investigated as a single-level industrial scheme. These early studies assisted in testing site capacity, operational planning and development opportunities before the project evolved into its multi-level solution.

As the project progressed, PACE was engaged by Vaughan Constructions as Lead Consultant and Project Architect, responsible for the architectural construction documentation, multidisciplinary design coordination and project delivery through the construction phase.

Developed by Hale in partnership with LaSalle Investment Management, the completed development delivers approximately 20,000m² of industrial and logistics space across four tenancies, ranging from approximately 4,640m² to 5,109m².

A defining feature of the development is its functional ramp-up configuration, providing direct vehicle access to Level 1 and allowing the upper-level tenancies to operate with the functionality expected of a traditional ground-level logistics facility.

The development incorporates one-way circulation for trucks and cars, heavy-duty industrial floor slabs, undercover loading areas through enclosed breezeways on both levels, and contemporary office accommodation integrated with each tenancy.

Portal demonstrates the evolution of industrial development in land-constrained metropolitan locations, where efficient planning, vertical logistics and buildability are critical to unlocking greater value from strategically located industrial land.

For PACE, the project reflects our ability to contribute from early feasibility and development thinking through to detailed construction documentation and on-site project delivery - working collaboratively with Vaughan Constructions and the wider consultant team to turn a complex multi-level industrial concept into a highly functional built outcome.
