Bluescope MCL7

BlueScope Steel – Metal Coating Line #7
Supporting the Future of Australian Manufacturing

PACEARCHITECTS was proud to play a key role in the delivery of BlueScope Steel’s landmark $115 million Metal Coating Line #7 (MCL7) facility at its Western Sydney Service Centre in Erskine Park, NSW.

Engaged from the earliest concept phase, PACEARCHITECTS helped shape the architectural and planning response for this significant investment by one of Australia’s leading national steel manufacturers. Our team was responsible for preparing and coordinating the State Significant Development Application (SSDA), working closely with the client, authorities and specialist consultant team to successfully navigate the planning process and achieve development approval.

Following approval, PACEARCHITECTS was retained through the project’s Design & Construct delivery, working under the Lead Consultant and alongside the broader consultant and construction teams through to practical completion. This continuity allowed our team to carry the original design intent and approval requirements through detailed documentation, coordination and construction.

The project represents a major investment in Australian manufacturing, delivering a new ZINCALUME® metal coating line with capacity to add approximately 240,000 tonnes of annual metal coating production, supporting the COLORBOND® and TRUCORE® steel markets.

The technically complex facility comprises eight distinct construction compartments, including a 38-metre-high bay structure, concrete cellars extending approximately 6 metres below ground, specialist gas suppression and misting systems, and an extension to the administration facilities.

PACEARCHITECTS’ involvement included:
Concept Design & Design Development
State Significant Development Application (SSDA)
Planning & Authority Coordination
Successful Development Approval
Architectural Documentation
Design & Construct Documentation
Lead Consultant & Specialist Consultant Coordination
Construction Phase Architectural Support
Design Resolution Through to Practical Completion

From concept and SSDA approval through to construction and completion, PACEARCHITECTS helped translate complex operational, process and engineering requirements into a coordinated, practical and buildable architectural solution.

MCL7 represents more than the delivery of a major industrial facility — it is an investment in the future of Australian manufacturing and a landmark project PACEARCHITECTS is proud to have helped deliver.
